Maybe you have heard the gossip, too, but for those of us living on the west end of Lake Texoma, it's a constant stream of opinions, conjectures and speculations.
Apparently there is some truth to the rumor that there will be a casino built in Willis, Oklahoma soon. It will be located on or just off Highway 377/99, north of the Willis Bridge across Lake Texoma.
Now, it's pretty easy to see that Texans and travelers north already have some pretty elaborate options if they are interested in gambling. There is WinStar World Casino on Interstate 35 at Thackerville exit and Choctaw Casino on Highway 69/75 in Durant, all being located in Oklahoma of course.
According to Wikipedia, the Chickasaw Nation is heavily invested in Oklahoma casinos. "Their casinos include Ada Gaming Center, Chisholm Trail Casino, Gold Mountain Casino, Newcastle Casino, Riverwind Casino, Treasure Valley Casino, SaltCreek Casino, and WinStar World Casino. They also own Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas and Remington Park Casino in Oklahoma City."
And the Choctaw Nation owns eight casinos in Oklahoma, with the largest being Choctaw Casino in Durant, near Lake Texoma.
Do travelers north from Texas really need another casino on the Oklahoma side of Lake Texoma?
The exact location and the anticipated timing of construction of the Willis, Oklahoma casino seem to vary, depending on who is telling the story, and where they got their information.
I've heard it will be a small facility like the one in Kingston, Oklahoma, along with a gas station and convenience store. Then, I've also heard it will be a much larger operation with a hotel, too.
Plans to rebuild and widen the Willis Bridge are supposedly in the works as well.
What have you heard about a new casino in Willis, Oklahoma and a new, wider bridge to access it across Lake Texoma?
Any and all rumors welcome here.
