Lake Texoma State Park Campgrounds are Open

Lake Texoma State Park campgrounds are open.

The Tourism Department entered a "secret contract" with Pointe Vista in 2008 to sell an additional 1,122 acres known as "Area C." That would have included all of the campgrounds. These park lands are leased by Tourism from the Corps of Engineers. They are federal lands.

Since Pointe Vista abandoned the environmental study related to this proposed federal land transfer to the state, these 1,122 acres will not be sold to the state or Pointe Vista. When we demanded a full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in 2008 on this proposed additional sale, that threw a road block in front of the privatization of Lake Texoma State Park campgrounds.

When someone tells you that the EPA and US Fish & Wildlife Service laws should be overturned, and federal land transferred to the states, just remember what happened here and how Aubrey McClendon ended up with 758 acres of our best state park!

Federal park land is better protected under federal conservation and environmental laws. Developers would have a field day and tear into all of our parks if they were somehow transferred to the state.

On Monday (3/16/2015) the public boat ramp at the south side of the Rooster Creek campgrounds - "Ben's Campground" - was re-opened for the first time in over a year.  If you are looking for RV or tent sites, rest rooms with hot showers, a swimming beach, hiking trails and convenient boat ramp, this is an ideal location.

The public boat ramp on the lake side of Catfish Bay Campgrounds has always remained open over the past two years. So you have at least two good boat ramps at Lake Texoma State Park which provide free public access to the water.

The lake elevation is at it's highest point since August, 2013 and still rising. Good time to plan a trip to Lake Texoma State Park.  Have fun!

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jan. 15)

GOOD. Water stained; 53 degrees; 0.35 feet above pool. Striper fishing is great with the drop in water temperatures. Lures have really started producing, deadsticking flukes along river channels and deep flats in 40-60 feet of water or swimbaits on structure, ledges and humps in 20-35 feet of water. Slow down your approach and stick with fish if you’re getting bit and marking them as they turn on longer into a drift. Trophy fish are showing up and all the fish are healthy! Catfishing remains tough with the drop in water temps. Target big blues moving up in creeks and near the rivers with whole gizzard shad anchored up in 5-15 feet of water. Drift flats near the river channel in 30-50 feet of water. Crappie are holding deep in 20-30 feet of water on humps and ledges with brush and structure. Jigs with a tipped minnow fishing vertically in the brush. Electronics make it easier to spot fish but it doesn’t make them eat! Bass fishing slowed with the water temps dropping but look for fish to move up in coves and near docks on sunny days. Shaky head or a swim jig on drop-offs near stumps in 8-15 feet of water. Look for brush and stumps fish that will be holding close to Texas rigged plastics as well. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Guaranteed Guide Service. Striped bass continue to be good with Alabama rigs or sassy shad on structure in 15-25 feet of water. When this bite ends, the bigger fish are being caught under the birds in deeper water deadsticking or with Alabama rigs. This bite is typically around the last hour of sunlight. The deadsticking bite is really picking up. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
