Lake Texoma Fishing Report...Late Fall Fishing

Hello All, This is my first report on LakeTexoma.com I hope you enjoy it and it is the first of many. I'm not sure yet if these reports should be short and sweet or if you want more detail. We will hammer out those types of issues as we go, I guess. 11-30-11 Lake Level 612.20 Water temps. 55.5 Striper fishing has really picked up the past month as it should this time of year. They have started their normal winter migration to the mouths of the rivers and even though they are about a month behind schedule, at least they are doing it. They need to be close to the rivers so when the rains come (if) they will be ready to move up the rivers to spawn. Without that migration, they will be stuck out in the main lake and the chances of a successful spawn for those fish is greatly reduced. So, they are migrating and have been feeding pretty hard. Gulls are in abundance and will show you schools of feeding fish. As schools of Stripers push bait to the surface to trap them, Gulls take advantage of this and pick off the baitfish that are injured or running on the surface. Look for Gulls diving down to the water and you are almost certain to find feeding Stripers under them. I am a live bait guide and use live bait 99% of my trips. My reports will be about whatever bait or lure we used that day but I'm here to tell you it will almost always be a report about bait catching and bait fishing. I prefer bait. More about that in later reports. So, fishing is good right now on live bait. We are fishing out in the river channels and drifting has been working this week better than staying on anchor. Look for diving birds and watch them for a minute. You can see what direction the school of fish is moving and all you need to do, is get in front of them and wait. I'll try and do bi-weekly fishing reports if not more and also mix in some articles on other subjects like bait catching, Striper patterns, equipment I use etc......Nothing is off limits I guess. Let me know what subjects you are interested in and I'll try to write about what you want me to. I hope you find it at least entertaining if not a bit useful. And remember.... Fishing is not a sport-it's a way of life James Allen Blue Water Striper Guide Service...Lake Texoma www.texomastriperguidefishing.com [email protected] 580-916-6298

Fishing Report from TPWD (Feb. 19)

FAIR. Water stained; 48 degrees; 2.81 feet below pool. Striped bass fishing is a little slower with the arctic blast but will pick up soon after the warm-up. Fish are still in deep water along river channels and flats in 50-65 feet of water. Flukes and swimbaits suspended above the fish drifting .5-1 mph. Catfishing is decent seeing bigger blues come off shallow flats and ditches in 5-15 feet of water. Anchored up with cut shad and whole gizzard shad. Crappie are on deep structure and brush in 18-25 feet of water near creeks and coves. A slow presentation using electronics to locate active fish. Bass fishing is slow with the drop in lake levels and water temperature. Look for fish to move up in coves and on rocky banks on sunny days. Fish creeks and stumps looking for the gizzard shad this time of year for bigger bass to be feeding. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Guaranteed Guide Service. Striped bass are best deadsticking in deep water. Catches up to 13 pounds are possible. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
