Highport Marina selected as Official Best Full Service Marina in Texas for 2014

Television travel show and website, Official Best Of has announced Highport Marina on Lake Texoma has been selected as the Official Best Full Service Marina in Texas for 2014. Highport will be featured in a series shown on KTVT CBS 11 Dallas/Fort Worth, on KUBE 57 in Houston and on The Discovery Channel nationally in October and November and placed on the national travel site, www.OfficialBestOf.com/Texas.

The shows will air in Dallas on October 25 at 12:30 pm, in Houston on October 25 at 10 am and again on November 1 at 10 am. Nationally the show will air on Discovery Channel at 4 pm CST on Monday November 3.

The Official Best Of originated in January, 2007 as a travel TV show and website only covering a few states. Today Official Best Of covers 28 states with the remaining states plus other countries being covered in 2014.

The Official Best Of studios are located in Hollywood, CA and has researchers that spend at least 2 months per show compiling a collection of the very best attractions and destinations in each given state. Once the research is complete and destinations are chosen in a state, a show is produced and aired. Produced according to each individual state, each state’s show is promoted and aired within that state as well as promoted on a national level. Each TV segment is also featured on the www.OfficialBestOf.com website.

One distinction that sets Official Best Of apart from many other travel sites is that it doesn't accept advertising on either its television programs or its website. The selection of attractions is by merit, and lesser-known but worthy attractions are given the same attention as famous ones.

As with each TV show production, the website www.OfficialBestOf.com offers a great resource for those planning a vacation, day trip or outing for residents within Texas as well as folks all across the country. Official Best Of is currently
working on covering all 50 states plus exploring other countries. Visit www.OfficialBestOf.com to see the states already covered.

It is very exciting for Lake Texoma to have this national media exposure. Certainly it will open new doors of opportunity for Highport Marina, but all small business owners on Lake Texoma will receive benefit from these TV shows as Lake Texoma is exposed to an even wider audience.

Wondering what it was exactly that Highport did that was special, I visited with Chuck and Stephanie Henson who have been on Lake Texoma for over 40 years, asking them about their experience at Highport. "At Highport, the staff genuinely love and care about each of the boat dock owners and every single person that visits their marina," said Stephanie. "Everyone is unbelievably kind and good hearted!"

Creating those kinds of raving fans takes a lot of work and dedication. Congratulations to the entire staff at Highport Marina on receiving this prestigious award.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Dec. 31)

GOOD. Water stained; 53 degrees; 0.97 feet above pool. Striper fishing is excellent, with milder temperatures lingering and fish continuing to take live bait exceptionally well. They’re being found on deep flats and ledges in 35-60 feet of water. Soft plastics are also working and will become even more effective as the temperatures drop. Keep an eye out for gulls on the main lake and pelicans in the coves to locate active fish. Fish are very healthy and full of shad heading into the colder months. Catfishing has slowed as fish move toward the rivers with the inflow of water. Drift flats in 25-45 feet of water using gizzard shad or cut rough fish. Smaller blues are still schooled along the bluffs in 30-50 feet of water. Use your electronics to locate active crappie on brush and structure near coves and points in 18-25 feet of water. Hair jigs and small shad will produce great results. For bass fishing, look for fish moving off points to secondary ledges and humps. Use plastics and slow-moving baits off the banks in 8-15 feet of water. On sunny days, target rocky coves, as bass will pull up to feed in the warmer shallows. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Guaranteed Guide Service. Striped bass are good with Alabama rigs or swimbaits in 10-15 feet of water, and deadsticking in deeper water. Birds are working most days. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
