Preston Point Comes Alive For The 2013 Season on Lake Texoma

We've looked at the history of Preston TX, and examined some future plans for the area, too. But what's happening right now? What do you have to look forward to when you drive up Hwy 289 and look around? Well, for one thing, you'll probably be surprised, especially if you haven't visited the area in a while. Things are happening, for sure. The Happy Cajun is an established restaurant that's just been entirely remodeled. It's open from 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM now, and there's an Official Grand opening scheduled for Friday, April 19th. The Happy Cajun's page on Facebook is a great place to see photos of its new look, and to keep posted on events. Radio station KLAK will be doing a live remote broadcast from the restaurant from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. And then Cody O'Neill and the Crosswind Band will be playing live out on the patio from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM as well. Lots going on, so don't miss it. Lighthouse Resort and Marina is expanding, too. There are forty-five cabins for rent, and some for sale, too. Some have been recently remodeled for the 2013 summer season, so call 903.786.2311 to get your reservations. And if you're bringing along your family dog, be sure and ask about the pet-friendly cabins. All cabins are fully furnished with fully cable television, towels, linens, basic dishes, cookware and utensils, a BBQ grill, refrigerator, coffee pot, and most have a microwave oven. If you need to arrange for slip rental during your stay, it's available on a first-come-first-served basis. Pontoon boats, sailboats and kayaks are available for rent, as well as canoes, paddle boats and tubes for the whole family. The RV park has 30 & 50 amp hookups, a dump station and a park-like grassy area right next the water, including picnic tables for all campers. About twenty striper and catfish guides work out of Lighthouse Marina, so you can arrange for a great day (or more) of fishing even if you don't own a boat. And afterwards, if you're not having a fish fry, Dreamland Catering can bring in a BBQ wagon and serve your fishing party or cabin groups by calling 903-361-0504 for a reservation. Texoma Destinations is the place to get all the information about what's happening on Preston Point now. Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 2)

FAIR. Water stained; 60 degrees; 2.98 feet below pool. Target striped bass on structure, ledges and humps in 15-35 feet of water with swimbaits. Fish are roaming deep flats in 40-55 feet of water, with good numbers anchoring up with live bait. Crappie fishing will pick up with the rains and look for fish to move towards creeks. Bigger fish will be roaming 8-12 feet on flats and numbers will be on brush and structure in the mouths of coves and creeks. Jigs and minnows. Bass are near creeks and docks on crankbaits and jerkbaits. Fish will be in small schools, so spend time in a spot you catch one. Spawning fish will be moving up with the inflow and warmer temperature. Catfishing is slow as fish have scattered and they have plenty of bait to eat. Look for numbers in deeper water along ledges on whole shad. Bigger fish will move up with the inflow. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Texoma, Guaranteed Guide Service. Striped bass are active under the birds. Fish on the structure are hitting Alabama rigs or swimbaits, and open water fish can be caught with live bait or swimbaits. The spawn is in full swing. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
