NEWS RELEASE: Ambassador 'Sully' Sullenberger to Visit Denison for Dedication Events

Denison, Texas (September 12, 2023) – Join us as we celebrate, welcome, and honor a true American hero. Saturday, September 16th, Ambassador "Sully" Sullenberger will be participating in his homecoming parade and various dedicatory events in the City of Denison. The day will be filled with heartfelt tributes, and opportunities to connect with the remarkable man who captured the nation's heart with his extraordinary actions 14 years ago. On January 15, 2009, Ambassador Sullenberger was the captain of US Airways Flight 1549 taking off from LaGuardia Airport. Shortly after takeoff, the plane struck a flock of geese and lost power in both engines. Ambassador Sullenberger successfully performed an emergency landing on the Hudson River. All 155 people on board survived.

10:00 a.m. - Homecoming Parade:

In honor of Ambassador Sullenberger’s heroic actions, the day will begin with a parade in Downtown Denison. The route will begin in the 700 block of Main Street and continue to Heritage Park. The parade will feature marching bands, community groups, military personnel, and more all coming together to express their gratitude to Ambassador Sullenberger for his lifetime of service.

10:30 a.m. - Mural Dedication:

Following the parade, we will gather at Heritage Park to have a mural ribbon cutting dedicated to Ambassador Sullenberger's remarkable "Miracle on the Hudson" flight and his unwavering commitment to aviation safety. The mural will serve as a permanent tribute to his bravery and the lives he saved that fateful day.

11:30 a.m. - Uniform Dedication followed by Book Signing:

Ambassador Sullenberger will be visiting Perrin Air Force Base Museum where he will be signing copies of his inspiring memoir. With a limited amount of time, he will only be able to sign 120 books which must be purchased in advance from Perrin Air Force Base Museum. The book recounts the incredible events of Flight 1549 and sharing his life's journey. Additional signed copies of the book will be available to purchase after the event. Ambassador Sullenberger has generously donated his dress blues uniform to Perrin Air Force Base Museum. The uniform, which has become a symbol of hope and heroism, will be preserved, and displayed for future generations to witness the impact of one man's courage and dedication to his profession.

This event is open to the public, and we encourage everyone to come together as a community to honor this extraordinary individual who has inspired millions around the world.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 12)

FAIR. Water stained; 48 degrees; 2.85 feet below pool. Look for active striped bass near river channels and ledges. Fish dirtier warmer water, live bait and swim baits are effective throughout the day on the right group of fish. There are more shad in the lake than we’ve seen in years so the fish don’t have to work hard or every day. Watch for birds and watch the weather! Crappie fishing will pick up with the rain and inflow in creeks and coves. Jigs and minnows on brush in 6-12 feet of water. Fish will become more active on warmer days and look for pre-spawn fish patterns. Catfishing is slower as blues move to spawn and fish are full of shad. Fish marinas in deep water or sandy banks and creeks with shad. Keeper fish are suspended in deep water off river channels. Bass are moving up and becoming more active with the rise in water temperatures and levels. Plastics and slow presentations near stumps and drop-offs in 6-12 feet of water near creeks and coves. Fish dirty water and wind blown banks. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Guaranteed Guide Service. Striped bass have been fair to good with Alabama rigs on structure. There is also a bite on swimbaits and live bait. Deadsticking has produced mixed results. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
