Legendary Fall Fishing is Here - Lake Texoma Fishing Guides Report Part 3

Lake Texoma Fishing Report Part 3

Let’s talk some more about Lake Texoma Striper Fishing.
It’s late October, and the fish love these cooler temperatures. Fishing is getting better every day.

How ‘Bout Some Top Water Fishing

The fall season’s top water striper fishing is in full swing. We board and depart at 6:45am. Our goal is to be casting Pencil Popper plugs a first light. We tell folks, if the top water bite is good today, it’s one heck of a way to start your days fishing charter. Depending on cloud cover the top water will last 1 – 1 ½ hours each morning. We had a repeat client call to book a charter. Joe S. said last year they cast the top water’s for the duration of the whole charter. We asked Joe, did you have good cloud cover? He was ecstatic! “Yes Sir, looked like it would rain anytime. The stripers stayed on the shallow banks and it was pure Nirvana!” (Hence my previous description of top water fishing)

The Sporting Way

Most Lake Texoma fishing guides prefer to use live bait to catch these fighting stripers. Striper Express is different. We like to trick the fish with The Thrill of the Hunt using artificial lures.
- You are casting lures from start to finish
- You feel the fish strike your lure
- You set the hook and the fight is on
- You fight to the finish and land the fish
- You cast and do it again
It’s a blast. We call it the Sporting Way.

The Best Free Fish Finder

We are frequently asked, what is the best fish finder? Do your research and choose one that you are confident with. There are several months every year you have the best, free fish finder on board. It’s the birds. Thousands of seagulls migrate to Lake Texoma every fall.

Here’s how it works

The stripers are schooling fish. They run in large groups. The bait runs in schools also. The fish push the shad (#1 food forage) to the surface. The birds have tremendous eye sight. The bait can run but they cannot hide on the water’s surface. Dozens of birds will see the sparkle of the bait. They hover and dive constantly feeding on the bait.

Here’s a good tip

We glass the birds. We bring a pair of binoculars and scan the lake looking for flocks of birds. While motoring towards the birds, pay attention to which direction they are moving. Position your boat where the birds are working towards you. Always cast into the wind to keep a tight line and feel the strike. The favorite bait of choice is a ¾ to 1 ounce jighead with a 4” sassy shad soft plastic tail. The fish like chartreuse and white glow colors.

Lake Texoma is the Best Fishing I Have Ever Seen!

Tom Sullivan loves the fall fishing. “I’ve been fishing with Bill and his crew for 17 years. Since 1999, I come fishing every year in the fall. I started coming in October, then we came in November and now I just booked 3 days after Thanksgiving. Lake Texoma is the best fishing I’ve ever seen. Striper Express is not only my guide, they are my friends!”

Fishing Report from TPWD (Nov. 20)

GOOD. Water stained; 69 degrees; 1.69 feet below pool. Striper fishing is great on live bait and lures. Topwaters are landing bites early along sandy points and creeks. Cast swimbaits under the birds working or on structure in 15-20 feet of water. Live bait is producing limits of fish on ledges in 30-40 feet of water. Catfishing is great on cut shad and whole gizzard shad. Look near the rivers and off the river channels on deep flats 30-40 feet of water. Big blues are starting to show up. Crappie fishing is picking up. Use jigs and small shad under dock floats and along the tops of brush piles in 6-12 feet of water. Electronics help locate active fish suspended throughout the brush. Bass fishing will continue to improve as temperatures drop and water levels rise. Look for bass to be more active, chasing baits and making more mistakes. Try Alabama rigs with flukes and hard baits off the banks towards the middle of shallow coves and near docks in 5-12 feet of water. Use electronics to locate brush and structure bait will be holding on with bigger bass roaming the ledges. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Guaranteed Guide Service. Striped bass are excellent with slabs and swimbaits along the ledges and drop-offs. When there is bird action follow the birds and beneath. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors. Crappie are excellent on brush piles in 8-25 feet of water with the best bite on ⅛ ounce jig, and tipping the jig with minnows. This pattern will be consistent until the water reaches the upper 50s. Report by River Bottom Boys Guide Service.
