What's up everybody it's Simon from Lakehab. It's a sandbass run, it's springtime
0:05
it's beautiful outside, I'm out on the creek and I'm fly fishing for sandbass
0:11
Yeah it's awesome. So I've got a couple of flies to show you that I've caught
0:17
that I've caught sandies on this year and it's a couple techniques, super
0:22
simple, I love it. It's so much fun, it's my first time doing it and this is
0:27
something I'm gonna be doing every single year. So I'm a total fly fishing
0:33
rookie I've been doing it for less than a year I have completely entry-level
0:38
gear you know I can't I can't hit a pie plate at 40 yards like some people can
0:43
but you know I can fish a river honestly anybody can fish a river you learn how
0:48
to roll cast and that's all you really need you just drift and strip it and
0:52
it's it's really fishing rivers is super super fun and totally relaxing I
1:00
mean look how chill this is I'm just gonna give you a little look-see here taking the sound. So I'm here to tell you you don't need to be a great fly
1:11
fisherman you can get out here catch some sandbass like me because I am not
1:17
that good but it's not that hard when it's the run and you find them. So the
1:23
three flies that I've caught sandbass on this spring they're all white and they
1:29
all look like little minnows in the water so naturally the first one is
1:33
gonna be a clouser minnow fly with a little touch of red which is nice I talk
1:40
about that in my sand bass fishing video white with a little touch of red is
1:45
always a good move it's always a good mix this one's got eyes on the front and
1:50
it's a streamer so you cast it and you strip it that's that's the case with all
1:57
three of these two. The second fly is a woolly bugger pretty simple this one I
2:05
actually got like a 12 pack on Amazon but they all had gold heads so I painted
2:09
a couple white you can see that one that's just spray paint and a little you
2:13
know one of my kids paint brushes so just sprayed it on some cardboard and
2:19
brushed it on real quick spray paint is enamel so it'll paint on metal okay it'll
2:24
last as long as you need it to I did a couple red too just for kicks just caught
2:30
one on this one this morning and so once again red head white body wins again I
2:37
haven't tried throwing the gold ones yet I totally lost some flies so I'm going
2:43
to get my glasses I have no idea where they came off somewhere on those rocks
2:48
over there the third fly is another streamer this one's called crazy Charlie
2:54
so this one's got you know eyes big bug eyes again red on the head this is white
3:01
chartreuse but you can use all white you can use all chartreuse I've just had you
3:05
know a better bite on white just always you know that's just my go-to so there's
3:11
a nice little sparkle and shine in here too a little flash you know so that
3:17
helps that helps draw some attention it's a streamer so you you just you just
3:21
pitch and then strip the line back to you give it some action that's all you're
3:26
really doing just pitch and strip and strip and strip don't you know don't
3:31
don't let it just drop I mean you can let it drop to get off the surface but
3:37
don't let it just drop and sit I mean you got it you got to work it a little bit you could drift them I actually haven't tried that I haven't tried that
3:46
but you you know this river fishing so you potentially you could drift them if
3:51
you're gonna do that you want to do it like through kind of a deeper area this
3:55
bank over here you can see is steep so there's a nice little there's a nice
3:59
little cut right there a nice little run and then further back behind me it turns
4:05
real sharp so there's a nice big hole right there so places like that those
4:10
are the things you want to look for those are gonna hold fish that they're
4:14
either gonna be you know sitting and waiting to go up a run and then and then
4:18
up some Falls like this or or they're gonna be actually making the run and
4:24
either way they're gonna be hungry I hope I encouraged you to get out there
4:28
and try fly fishing the sand bass run it's really uncomplicated it's simple
4:32
fishing it's a total blast and don't miss out on my essential gear for creek
