What's up everybody, Simon from Light Cove. I'm here with a few tips today on how to hunt without the deer blind, without a tree stand
0:08
Now most of the time I'm hunting private land and that's gonna be in a box blind. But every now and then I venture out into public land
0:14
When I do, I hunt with no blind. I've had deer come into 15 yards, 20 yards, and not see me
0:22
Now I used to hunt with a pop-up blind in public land, but I don't do that anymore
0:27
I learned that it takes about three days for deer to kind of go back to their old pattern once you interrupt it with a
0:33
new object in their space. So unless I'm planning to come back a week later and
0:39
hope that my pop-up blind is still there, then I don't even use it anymore
0:43
So I still have it just in case I want to run across that scenario, but I really don't use it anymore
0:50
So here's what you need to do if you're hunting without blind or without a tree stand
0:56
You just camo out. Head to toe, fingers, toes, everything. If you have pale complexion like me, mark your face up
1:05
I have a different video on the best way to camo your face. This is not grease
1:12
I'll leave you to watch that video to find out what it is, but it washes off really easily
1:16
If you're in a state that requires blaze orange or you're hunting public land, then definitely wear blaze orange and wear one with camo that's broken up like this
1:28
Otherwise, regular old-school camo will do it. I like wearing a shirt with a collar that goes up, kind of covers part of my neck
1:35
Of course, I have this beard going on so I don't have to worry about it. If you're clean shaving, you can mark yourself up all the way down or wear a face mask
1:42
Just a regular face gaiter camo that goes up to your eyes and that covers your ears too, which is nice
1:49
Those work great. Where you sit really matters. I'm showing you from my backyard here, just for example
1:57
I've got the street behind me. This is what you want to do. If you do this
2:02
you are skylined. You're silhouetted. You want to break up your outline. If you're in the middle of a field
2:10
it's not going to work. If you're in front of a bush, you're fine
2:14
That's all you really need. You can put a bush in front of you, a bush behind you
2:19
sometimes I find a big oak tree. If it's bigger than me, I just sit right in front of it
2:24
I've had deer to 20-25 yards with me sitting in front of a tree trunk and
2:30
nothing. They watch. They look around me like, oh, it's weird. There's something there. It doesn't spook them. They go back to their own business
2:39
Obviously brushing yourself in is going to be better. And so if you have some, you know, sticks or some bush, you know, kind of shrubbery laying around
2:49
you know, you can kind of stick those in the ground, lean them up against each other, zip tie them together in the middle, kind of make an X, something like that
2:56
That'll really, really help. If you're walking around and there's, you know, kind of shrubs that are about waist high
3:02
those are perfect because when you sit down, they're going to be right up to here, you know
3:06
And again, just make sure you're not outlined. You're not skylined. Above the bush, you got something behind you
3:12
But if you've got a nice little hole to sit in, in the middle of some shrubs, that is great
3:17
Even if, even if the deer can kind of see through those, all you need is just to break it up
3:22
Break it up and don't move. What's most important is that you don't move
3:29
And also you don't have any colors that they can actually see like blue, so like blue jeans
3:34
Don't wear blue jeans, just wear, I don't even wear camel pants. I wear
3:39
cotton duck pants, like Dickies pants. Brown, earthy colors, right? Brown, tan
3:48
olive drab. And that's good enough. That's good enough. Usually I just go with brown and
3:56
most of my surroundings are gonna be brown in this time of year anyway, so it works out
4:01
That's all you really need to hunt without a blind, without a tree stand
4:06
I promise you I've done this for years and had deer walk right in front of me
4:11
I hope that helps. Go out and baggy one. I'm Simon from Light Cub. We'll see you next time
