Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 5)

FAIR. Water stained; 48 degrees; 3.39 feet below pool. Striped bass fishing is improving after the change in water levels and recent rains. Target dirty water while watching for gulls and active birds. Swimbaits and shad are working when you find active fish. Look near creeks with the water flow and rising water temperature for crappie. Target rocks and stumps on flats in 6-12 feet of water fishing jigs and minnows. Bass fishing will improve as water temperatures rise. Focus efforts at the backs of creeks and points near stumps and brush. Use this time to mark those structures with the low lake levels as well. Catfish will push up the creeks and rivers with the rains. If you can get through the jungle of jugs near the rivers. Fish stumps and flats in 15-35 feet of water with whole shad shad for numbers. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Guaranteed Guide Service. Striped bass have been good with Alabama rigs on structure, but it is about time to switch to swimbaits. Many reports of big fish being caught in open water under the birds with swimbaits. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
